This track was originally released on the ‘Shanghai Hostage’ EP in 2019
Shanghai Hostage are Sophie Hadlum (vocals, clarinet and keyboards), Beth Black (guitar), Ian Todd (guitar), Richard Brown (bass) and Dom McAvera (drums)
Shanghai Hostage have rapidly won the hearts of local music fans as a favourite live act & released their eponymous debut EP in 2019. Self defining as "multi-genre" they manage to evade all the normal clichés & expectations surrounding "crossover" or "fusion" acts, citing influences such as "Ska, Punk, Desert Rock, Reggae, Hard Rock" plus "Hives, Wolfmother & Led Zeppelin. You may well detect others.
As they themselves also put it: “music to make you dance. A multi genre band bringing you funk to folk, rock to soul”.

“Headliners Shanghai Hostage defy categorisation..... Each song is totally individual and its connections with genres subtle & suited to the song in question.... The musicianship was most adept, most flexible & thankfully most joyous. This band absolutely radiate pleasure in playing & that really does connect with the audience” (Hot Music Live review of Shanghai Hostage live in July 2019)
